The best time to start taking care of yourself was twenty years ago. The second best time is now. Now and Today.
Your state of mind is one of the most important and yet often overlooked factors you need to consider when trying to make meaningful, lasting changes to your health. In fact, even though we use proven nutritional strategies, advanced functional labs, cutting-edge supplemental therapies, and so on, our experience has shown that having the correct mindset is crucial for successfully restoring health and vitality.
Given the importance of this, we want to take a moment to share what we believe are the essential elements of the successful mindset. Read the quote below, this time considering the notions of mindfulness, forgiveness, optimism, patience, and perseverance:
“The best time to start taking care of yourself was twenty years ago. The second best time is now. Now and Today.”
Mindfulness
Mindfulness can be found not just in acknowledging that starting earlier would have been preferred, but also in knowing that Now is what we have control over – not the past – which makes Today the next best time to start.
This mindfulness should ideally lead to forgiveness – specifically, forgiving feelings of guilt, anger, or other negative energies tied to the past. The importance of this cannot be overstated. Without forgiveness, restoring vitality is extremely difficult, if not impossible to do.
Once forgiveness occurs, the door of possibilities opens, and with that comes optimism. Optimism is the positive, high energy that excites us about what lies ahead. However, unbridled optimism can distort reality and ultimately lead to disappointment if left unchecked.
Therefore, optimism should be tempered with patience. Just as it takes time for the tree to grow, we also must have realistic expectations of the time needed to restore vitality. We find it helpful to think of the entire process as a journey rather than a destination.
It is also necessary to understand this journey is not always in a straight line. This is where perseverance is needed to work through the inevitable trials and tribulations we will encounter along the way. To this end, one of our favorite sayings is, “Focus on the process.”
With these elements in place, truly sustainable growth can be achieved, in the form of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health and wellness.
